The Counterfeit Sheepdog
Dr. Olivia Johnson
There is a difference between protecting the flock and pretending to. The sheepdog does not announce themselves, chase attention, or attempt to prove their worth. They stand their ground when it matters, quietly and without spectacle. Their presence is defined by action, not performance. They do not need recognition to validate what they already embody.
The counterfeit, the wannabe, performs, positioning themselves near real sheepdogs, hoping proximity will be mistaken for substance. They insert themselves into moments they neither earned nor have the strength to carry. Real sheepdogs see them clearly for what they are. Yet not all speak. Some remain silent because the counterfeit holds influence, power, access, or the ability to create disruption. Others tolerate the presence because it serves a purpose, preserves a relationship, or avoids unnecessary conflict.
Silence may be calculated, but it comes with consequences. Counterfeits do not survive on belief alone; they survive on the permission granted by those who know the truth and choose not to expose it.
Be Warned!
This is very dangerous. Just because they appear harmless does not mean they are.
The counterfeit operates under the illusion of immunity. They posture without foundation, speak without consequence, and retreat when substance is required. They claim to stand on solid ground, yet often live a double life. Their presence feels larger than it is; they’ll even tell you how important or powerful they are, yet their foundation is hollow and weak. All their noise masks their weakness, and when tested, their tactics become predictable. They deflect. They distract. They attack the questioner rather than answer the question. And when they know they are caught, they go silent. They double down on avoidance, hoping they will not be exposed as the frauds they are. They see avoidance as controlling “their narrative” - but avoidance is cowardice at its core. That’s how you can tell a sheepdog from a counterfeit.
These counterfeits are snowflakes in every sense: they have an exaggerated sense of uniqueness, an inflated ego, a sense of entitlement, and are overly emotional, easily offended, and incapable of handling opposing opinions (Dictionary.com), and yes, prone to dramatic meltdowns.
They may look imposing at first glance, but after close inspection, they are nothing more than a house of cards and smoke and mirrors. No act or illusion can save them from melting under real pressure, collapsing into a single droplet before disappearing into nothingness, from which they came.
